     Toys and games are a huge part of your child's development years.  What you choose for them is very important.  The toys you buy should be educational, fun and help them use their imagination.  Riding and climbing toys are also good for developing their large muscle groups. Do you really want to know what is going on in your child's mind?  Play more board games, card games and do puzzles with them.  These are all great ways to get them to talk to you.  Driving in a car is another way children seem to open us to us.  This way they can avoid eye contact which may make some uncomfortable.  If they aren't plugged into an electronic device you have a captive audience!

I am exposed to so many conversations regarding the trials and tribulations of blended families.  As a very caring and loving grandparent, I have been searching for the answers.  Through my many internet searches, I have discovered these Children's Bill of Rights (Located in Children's Parties).  If your family is experiencing these challenges, please read this over with an open mind and heart.  Each child is special and each situation is different, try to look at things from your child's point of view.  It's not hard, just take a little time to listen to your child.  My brother-in-law Gary said it best when he said "Know your twerp" regarding his granddaughter Melissa, who he loves with all his heart.  If you prepare yourself and know what to expect from your child you can quickly end almost any unpleasant situation.  Actually this also works well on husbands, wives, and most other adults in your life;)

1. Take an inventory of what your child already has before shopping for toys.

2. Encourage your child to think about what they would really like, to be selective.

3. Talk to your kids about what they see on TV ; toy ads often make toys seem more exciting than they really are.  Encourage them to be aware shoppers.
